The 3 Most Important Factors In Home Security
MONITORING If a company doesn’t promote/tell you about who does their monitoring,
this should be a big RED FLAG. People have security systems for many different reasons.
However, the primary one is typically to protect their home and family. The response
time from the monitoring station is crucial. There are many monitoring stations
with horrible track records. 30 minute response times happening regularly, or sometimes
not at all! I don’t care if you’re paying $15 a month, if it’s not there when you
need it...it’s worthless. Or my favorite... Oh, we do our monitoring here locally.
Oh no. What that typically means is there is a room of 5-6 people sitting around
answering phones. I know they are not UL listed. Are they 911 trained operators?
What happens if they lose power, or the phone lines go down? I know they don’t
have a backup. This is not the protection YOUR family deserves. Many larger nationwide
companies will claim fast response times. However, if you notice, it’s never documented.
Average response times are seldom posted by other companies... Put your family
in the hands of Monitronics, and rest assured you have the best!

Common mistakes made by inexperienced reps happen regularly. Many companies hire door knockers (often from out of state) to canvas neighborhoods. Seldom do these individuals have the experience or knowledge needed to do their job correctly. With “today only” specials and high pressure sales tactics, these guys have one thing on there mind... and it’s not to make your home safer. They will mislead, misrepresent and straight out lie to you to make a sale. And if you have already fallen victim, you know that the rep that sold you has mysteriously left the company or simply doesn’t answer the phone. Don’t be their next victim; call me, your local security expert today! Installation is big for me. Why anyone would let a subcontractor, with little or no affiliation with the alarm company, come into their home and put in a security system of all things, is beyond me. There have MANY cases where subcontractors have actually gone back and broken into the same house where they installed a system. SCARY! Not only that, you may also fall prey to crooked panels, holes in your walls, messes left behind, equipment programmed wrong or not at all, wires showing, etc. Sub-contractors get paid by the job... they want to get in & out, and on to their next paycheck as quick as possible. And if you’ve ever tried to get in touch with a sub-contractor after the fact, you can typically hang that up. When I complete the evaluation, I will schedule your install in a two hour window convenient for you. Upon which one of our SLED checked, salaried installers will arrive in a company shirt and company truck. He will be well groomed and professional, take care of your house, and upon completion will give you a full tutorial and set you up completely. Not only that, he will leave you his business card with his business cell phone #!
LENGTH IN BUSINESS/REPUTATION
In any industry, I always try to let a company grow past year 3, as many businesses don’t last. That rule is ever so important when deciding on security. The majority of new security companies go out of business before year 5. If you put your trust in a young company, you are taking a risk.
If an alarm company goes out of business, one of two things happen...
- You’re just out of luck. No one to service your equipment, and no one to monitor either.
- Your contract will be bought out by another company. At which point they can inflict whatever additional fees they like. Activation charges, as well as hiking your monthly monitoring rate up are common.
